Great Story, especially the ending. There is a problem with the coding, the story goes into bold/large font about a tenth of the way in, and stays in that for several paragraphs.

Also, the blurb says that this soes several incidents in the Book of Jobe from Jadis's POV, but it is set a whole month later than Part 1 of TBOJ. Is it something where some of the other parts should have been cued first, or you get this perspective, then go back to Jobe's perspective?

Considering the way Bek usually ends her stories, the ending really hit hard. Excellent work, as always.

I believe we still have a way to go in the Book of Jobe, so we'll be seeing the other side eventually.

Ah, Belphoebe's development will be fun to watch for a while, before it slows down. I see a clash with daddy sometime in the future.

Will be interesting watching Jobe in the future, too. I bet she'll get a different perspective on life after this, though not necessarily a less unnerving one.

Like the fleshing out of Jadis, too.

Oh, and a dangling thread that just screams pulling on: Phobos. What happened there? Is this the event that made Diamondback think about her in the past participle (in a story set at the start of next fall term), and talking about really missing her, but Deimos at least still being there? What's up there?

Great story! I especially liked the flash technique for the shopping trips. The byplay with the different characters was funny! Especially Hazard.

And little bits and pieces about other things.

It fleshed Jadis out. And the ending with Jadis thinking she's found out who her mother is.

And Belephoebe is going to be an interesting character. As is Superchick.

Awwwww! That's so sweet.

Amazing story. Really. Though I'm a tad dissapointed that they won't be staying together as a team. I mean, imagine... Two members of the Bad Seeds, one of the Primary Capes, Belphegor and Jobe's clone baby, and Superchick! It would be amazing!

Just plain outright awesome! Belphoebe took me completely by surprise although it was in character. I loved the bit about Jobe and Belphegor being her parents. I was choking on laughter the whole time. So many things were revealed about Jadis that I should probably put those under character discussions, but THAT ending really hit hard. Just a great and fun read!

I'm wondering if the "Deal" really happened or whether it was a convenient fiction to tell Jadis.

Jobe has her pride, she would rather blame it on a deal gone bad rather then admit that he grew weary of fighting it and wanted a safe way to finish the transformation while retaining his mind.

All he would have to do is supply Sara with more Tasty Snacks!

Besides the "Badly done deal with the devil" is cliche ;p

The whole basic concept of Jobe's original idea...have Sara remove all the Drow cells from his body leaving only the normal human ones. Didn't Jobe give any thought to the number of gapping holes that would leave in his body and general cellular structure?

Among other things he'd lose an eye, and that's only the beginning. It would strip away skin, bone structure (the chin, etc), and Sara only knows how much of his nervous system and organ tissue. This has to be one of the dumbest ideas on record.

I can't imagine Sara not pointing this out to him, an idea this dumb from a supposed genius practically demands comment.

That's another reason I don't think that is how it really went down, then again Jobe and Sara might have been in a situation perhaps against Counterpoint or a Voodoo wolves where Jobe managed to save Sara at a horrid cost.

Then again, it might have been part of a peace deal that he was fully aware of.

Myself, I liked the idea of "Jobe" as derived from "Joe-B" and so the new Jobe might be "Joe-C" -- thus Josie or Joyce or something like that.

Although there is *no* good reason to suspect cloning -- in fact, Gizmatic is rather dismissive of biotech.

Faraway: yes, the human brain consumes a lot of resources. OTOH, it is remarkably bad at regenerating -- those cells are there for the long run.

I would expect that fast-growing tissues (skin, hair, intestinal lining, bone marrow...) would be the first to be replaced.

Dismissive of the biological sciences, perhaps, but let us not forget that Dad is a mad scientist desvisor of the old school. There are other ways of besides test tubes to make a clone. Of course I'm talking about the yea ole transporter! Warning techno babble follows! Once you have the pattern in the transport buffer, you simply record it for later use. Now editing that pattern would be hard but what does Dad care about the laws of physics? Laws were made to be broken! Pwahahaha!

Personally I don't think this is the case but I had to mention it.

It was the discussion thread about how Elves look. Well I liked it and am using it as a my desktop wallpaper.

After reading this story and closing the window, Blam there was Sisters right in front of me. Or a little spider whispered in my ear,"Mother and daughter?"

We don't know just how alike they are but while Whateley has exemplar beauties by the dozen, just how many of those are twins, much less as exotic as Jobe's Drow? Peeper is going to go ballistic!

PS: I wonder if Tathriel takes commissions and if we can pass along a collection plate?

1. Belphebe appears to demonstrate gadgeteer (or possibly devisor) skills. Where did they come from? She has Belphegor's memories, but presumably not his DNA.

As for Sara's tamperings, we'll just have to see. After all, it could have been simply his brain slightly rewired when it was regenerating after all remaining male-cells were purged. Hey, could it be like the process of transformation Fey came through after the Ninja Clash? She didn't lose her mind despite a really forceful change but she began to find boys attractive.

If Phobos was unconcious, brain-tampered by Belfrog's flash thingie or otherwise incapacitated in a similar matter it could be the reason Stickyfingers couldn't get her mind imprint and accidentaly ended up giving his.

Not necessarily. It's like a latent mage power that only comes out under certain conditions. Yes, we know of Technomancer from Kerry's stories but he bridges the gap from the other side. We know about Nephy who's both but uses them semi-separately. Remind you that some statuses are supposedly caused by psychological barriers and traumas(Hippy's genitals, Jello's formlessness). Also remind you how Sahar helped Ace and Zenith break through from their knack fixation into a broader scope of PSI phenomena. So we can't be sure. If anything, maybe IF a devisor wanted to take Magic courses to become a trained mage we could learn more. Especially if it was a high-level Devisor (>4) so he could possibly prove himself as a natural caster (if the fixation theory is correct).

Since he transferred his own conciousness into clone and still retained it in his body, he was just assuming the clone would be grateful, however Phobos herself would still be in her body. Also, his assumption is exactly the same Jobe did about his would-be wife. And in "Book of Jobe" Jobe was pointed at the blunder and understood getting his reshaped wife to actually mate would be a problem. That is EXACTLY why he didn't use the formula earlier and finally injected himself!

One problem I see with all this speculation about Belphebe being a magic user is simple enough. Sidhe genetics does not a mage make. Granted, the potential would be there in some cases, and I understand the argument that devisors are mages bent towards the technical aspects of doing things.

That theory has yet to be proven, but it has been bumping around in my subconscious for a while now... Be warned!

Also, the Engram splicing (as seen in The Big Idea) can affect the abilities. Remember Spark ended up with the Exemplar and symbiont abilities, and _still_ had the devisor ability.

Reach ended up with ramped up strength/durability.

So, I'd assume that there's a chance that you'd end up with the metaphysical pattern abilities in addition to those abilities built into the DNA structures.

Now, the way I see it, was that Big B was putting this thing together, and tested it out on himself before asking Phobos if she would like to do it. This was when the accident happened. Phobos might not even know what Belphegore was up to.

And Jobe was just waiting for the right time and girl to use the serum on.

Charm, what she means by 'magically active' is that Belphy has been tapping into the latent magical power of her 'Etheric Identity' to protect herself. She doesn't know what to DO with it yet, but the potential is there.

Okay, that tree is BEYOND epileptic.

First: from Jadis scene, it appears that the White Witch is still active.
Second: Jadis speaks of WW as being Denver's foremost heroine in the PRESENT.
Third: Jadis' description of WW sounds quite different from Carson. Including her powers.
Fourth: I understand Carson has been Whateley's headmistress since the early EIGHTIES. That's almost TEN YEARS before WW disappeared and returned.

Now, keep in mind that Jobe is all about balance. Consider what Belphegor is currently going through with _Carson_. I mean, think about it.

1) Created a life form with human intelligence without proper supervision.
2) Performed a form of brain washing on a sentient being (albeit a bit blank slate).
3) Has created an additional burden on the school in the form of educating Belphoebe.

That's on top of:
1) Theft of several other students' property
2) Misuse of school property
3) Damaging/altering said other students' property.

Carson would have been completely in her rights under the school charter, as I understand it, to expel Belphegor and turn him over to the British MCO (I expect that, much like they are resisting the Euro and other 'join the EU' stuff, their MCO is separate). Even as a juvenile, he'd be looking at a _lot_ of hard time, and possibly hard labor.

He's getting off excruciatingly lucky, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that he's going to end up with a permanently implanted tracking device, marked as "you disable or remove, you're gone".

Note that Jobe _does_ feel personal responsibilities for his creations. Phoebe (Feeb? to go with Foob?) is the direct result of his genetic creation, as well as cloning chamber. Therefore, he has a vested interest in her anyway. Carson labeling him? her? Belphoebe's mother simply puts an official stamp on it, giving him defined responsibilities and privileges. Belphegor, I suspect, has more responsibilities than privileges in this matter. (Much like Texas law. The father basically has zero rights under state law)

Now, I'd also expect that without the psyche damage from Belphegor's historical experiences, Belphoebe will NOT end up quite the thieving bastard that Belfatso is. She has the experiences, but none of the physical brain changes that went along with those experiences - so they're like dreams more than memories. I'd expect her to be a bit sticky fingered, yes, but a larger tendency towards doing her own work.

This could be a fun thing. Belphegor's biggest strength seems to be in adapting other designs to new uses, or refining them, much like the Japanese. A devisor capable of doing that could be VERY popular in the Workshop. "Okay, you want to balance out the heterodyne in your third level field? If you talk to Mega-Death, one of his field disruptors could probably be modified to balance the waveform, rather than break it completely."

Maybe Belphoebe should be seeing Fubar. That would be a good way to help her integrate the engrammatic memories into a unique, coherent self-image.

Oh - did anyone notice how much attention to her image Belphoebe was doing during shopping? (Especially cleavage). I wonder if that's part of the Sidhe genetic legacy? I mean, you normally wouldn't expect a 'male turned female' to be wanting to do THAT kind of shopping within a few days of 'waking up' (especially with the immediate wakeup nightmare). My guess is that there are certain RNA indicators that are kicking in for "Have to look good!" despite the "But this isn't me!"

I think once Jadis clues in her brother about the flashy thingy that a lot of nasty Belphegor traps dressed up as something tasty will start to appear in the workshop.

My personal Jobe favorite might be something between the ultra violet's pet Colton and Jabba the Hutt. A less evil object lesson would be make him allergic to all food but certain legumes of the highly gaseous variety. Belphart, anyone.

We don't know how much of the DNA Jobe was planning on replacing. It could be quite a bit less than 100%. Belphoebe could well be a Belphegor clone + the Drow genes. Or someone else's clone plus the Drow genes.

This is my real theory, I think Jobe and Sara came to a mutually beneficial agreement and he was not tricked, just told the facts and was forced to admit the validity of them (in private) and has the bad deal with Sara as a cover story probably with Sara backing him up so that she can get more razerspinners on a regular basis.

Possibly bodies for Chaddy and Gary and maybe a back up bodies in-case she accidentally eats Jericho or Jade so that she does not absorb their fashion sense

Jobe already has different eye colors and likely will have shorter hair.

The stats match up with those given in Jobe 1. So, High probability that process is same. Not to mention Sara ate Jobe's male cells, and no mention was made of the Drow cells adopting genetic material from the host. (Not sure why you'd even want to, no way to control what would result.)
So, I guess it's possible that Belphy modified the Drow cells he stole from Jobe (why? Also, Phebe (with Belpfatso's memories) tells Jobe that Jobe created a masterpiece.)

I think it very probable that Jobe and Phebe are identical twins.

Actually as Belphegor wanted Feebs to be his GF, it seems most unlikely that he would have used his own genes as the base for the clone.

Here's another thought...

Jobe may have relent knowing that it was futile to fight it, in the time he had left.

So he contacts a female who is of decent intellect (Sara broke the tests remember) who has Sidhe/Human/Goo blood running in her veins (Meaning that she is rich in genetic potential) and offers her his body as a meal if she can help keep his mind as intact as possible.

Also to save his seed for an eventual heir of the Gizmatic Genetic line.

While I don't mind Alphas being dumb I have more respect for Jobe then for that to happen to him! She's a lovable little Drow-Sidhe.

As for Modeling perhaps he had a chat with Fey...

If Jobe has been reading the same books centered around Drow, I think he might get that idea into his head. After all, drow seem to not even blink at brother/sister incest. (Drizz'ts "graduation" scene is an example.) Then again, Drow seem to be the type for everything that moves (and possibly, some things that don't).

And anyways who is to say that Karedonia doesn't allow same sex marriage?
