The "logic" behind a Gay Bomb is that those affected by it will stop what they are doing and screw each other instead of fighting their enemy.

Keep in mind that its a class-less system. Archetypes only determine your initial core parameters (a bit like games that use the background experience slots to define initial skill sets) and establish the framework by which you learn/develop (which type of play yields the most experience and thus, points to spend toward skills/talents/abilities). That said... there is a Trader archetype and like Performer, it uses Social experience as its primary (player interaction and the development of a social network and active participation in the economy and questing systems). And while Ayla or any halfway decent real world economics guru would dominate a game economy more or less in their sleep... let's face it, there's no profit in it.

Unless there are real-world consequences, such as a meeting place for real-world business meetings with say other Golden Kid level High School students who might be in other boarding schools.

Kinda like golf.

as for Merchant quest-lines, Ayla can use that to test prospects as well in a situation where only virtual money is at stake.

But do you get enough Essence to cover all the ways you naturally *lose* Essence?

If you're a WIZ-1 or -2 and you don't focus on retaining your Essence, you'll lose it all before you figure out what you really should be doing with it. Essence trickles away with every 'I wish we could...' and every 'why don't we...' and a host of similar uncontrolled thoughts that use up your Essence unless you first learn enough control and focus and technique that you don't spill that Essence as soon as you think 'wow, I wish I'd eaten less at dinner' or 'I could have had a V-8!'.

Think of it like getting pocket change every day from your dad. I had one of those big molar teeth removed once - chiselled out in little bits with what looked like a surgical screwdriver.

Then I waited two weeks for the next one - which came out in one piece. I was very relieved, having been picturing a repeat...

I've got a prescription for some Valium to take an hour before the appointment and they are going to put me in "twilight sleep". I have no idea what that is like but I don't expect to care about much of anything that happens while in it. My teeth have always been bad and I'm surprised they've lasted this long. I never had wisdom teeth and the two molars right behind the lower bicuspids never came in so all my teeth have been moving around since I was sixteen mumble mumble years ago. I'm really looking forward to them being gone. I tried to get them to do the tops at the same time but they won't. grrr.

I'd still like to know how E.E. is doing?

Looking back at the story, I'm thinking that Bardue after the first plan (which was implausible under the scenario rules, although less so in real life), got caught up in trying to find out if they actually had a plan that didn't involve massive collateral damage (answer: No, except their plan A).

Some mutants might develop new applications, or tricks, that were previously unknown. eg, flash learning to vibrate fast enough to become intangible, simulating half a density-warping power.

Don't know if that answers your question. Otherwise, yeah, I think a burnout is the only thing that would regularly change your powers, except in really weird cases.

People, the TLW can't store essence because they waste it, whether their mutation has yet to kick in full blast or not they DO have a Wiz trait, hence their power automatically draws and stores essence, the reason they can't keep it stored is that they continuosly use it to do nothing.

If they just stopped for a second and listened what their teachers tell them they would understand it, but they don't, they have Harry Potter as model and everything else is irrelevant as that is what they want to be, the fact that HP is a fictional character from someone that knows nothing about magic doesn't factor in this, they have their fantasy and they want to live it, no matter what reality is or what the cost to the people sorrounding them is.

I don't remember ever seeing anything that would suggest that this sort of things happen. Actually the explanation on how power tends to plateau unless an external event sends them on a power curve seems to imply otherwise.
But I do not think that was ever explicitly and specifically called out as impossible.

I do this too. It has gotten to the point that my friends know a great deal about the universe and have agreed that it sounds great, but they won't read. Really!! They refuse to read, this handicap drives me nuts.

I talked about it so much that one of my friends created an account on here just to troll me. He got me good too. I only found out about the aforementioned trolling because he forgot to logout of the account and at his home one night I thought "whats going on in the forum tonight" and logged in only to find his troll account. I told him he was a douche and we had a good laugh.

Which would only strengthen your point even further. Which is good since I completely agree. The point you are making is that it doesn't increase her apparent mass, and that's all we need to conclude that something abnormal is going on.

The fact that she exists in more dimension that we do does not in any way shape or form mean that she cannot be banished to another realm of existence.Even if we assume that the pocket universe is simply shifted along the 4th dimension Tennyo exists on (which is definitely not mandatory and a pretty gratuitous assumption) the fact that she exists in 4 dimensions doesn't mean she can move freely along all 4 axises. Sure she can move freely along our three regular axises, but we exist in three dimension and can normally only move freely along 2 of them, so it wouldn't be strange at all for her to be unable to move significantly along the 4th.

Since that's her power Ryoko does have, and that it is a classical Warper power, and she has been described as an "omni-warper", it's actually quite possible that she can do it. But just like teleportation, she didn't know she could do it as soon as she turned into Tennyo, and she'd have to train a lot to do it.
So maybe in the future, but the reason she can't do it now is that :
a) she doesn't know she can
b) she hasn't trained that power

And I can't see them not having it. The staff is very careful about who gets to learn magic, since maturity and wisdom are crucial elements. If you do not have a Wiz power, you have to convine the teachers there to let you in. The TLW are definitely not the type anyone would be happy to teach magic too, but they have to since they're Wiz and will learn to do it on their own eventually, so it's better to teach them to do it right.
The fact that they are still young and their power isn't fully manifested yet is enough of a justification for them needing Essence from external sources.

Dunno what the Ratatoskr Upgrade would actually do. Off the top of my head, memory retention and strength boost.

Mind you, giving her a boost in the sims wouldn't be good for her mental health, mostly because if they give her a boost in the sims, it's gonna depress her that in order to play with the Big Boys/Girls/Neuters, she needs to have her power boosted and the idea that she may never get the boost in real life.

I was going to say "I hope that in Team Tactics, they occasionally throw a Dark Sim of someone who isn't on the team", then I remember the time Ayla had to run a dungeon for the Vindicators or something. Still, a Dark Aquerna sim might be interesting to see.

I believe it was stated that the younger a person is at manifestation, the more likely they will have a stronger power.
Also, the farther past puberty a person is the higher the chance they will have a deadly burnout during manifestation.

On the topic of more than one kind of Wizard mutations, Unless this is already covered by Batson Factors, the Magical Brick. Unable to cast spells beyond their command word, but turn into a magically empowered superman when the word is spoken. Perhaps there is a Paladin-like mutation where no matter how much essence they gather, they cannot ignite their flame without making contact with a being of sufficient power and entering a Contract. Then again, that could be covered under "Paladin" anyway. Perhaps the Wizard sub-mutations are more along the lines of "their Linker Core (in other words, their Essence Flame) shows a preference towards a certain style of casting or spell-work or essence gathering"

The TLW also forget the little particular that things don't end with getting away, the victims will still be there and will be pissed, it's a no win situation.

There's some suggestion that Billie may have extradimensional extensions to her body. Think of the Billie we see as a 3D cross-section of a 4-D or higher entity.

That would explain a few things, like:

Q: Where does all that food go?
A: Extra-dimensional storage

Q: Where does the mass comes from for her insane regen?
A: See above

Q: Where is her brain?
A: Probably all over her body, like Sara's -- but extending into the other dimensions too, with multiple redundancy, so it's just about impossible to cause brain damage.

Q: Teleporting?
A: Easy if you can move through higher dimensions. Like moving your finger from one end of your iPad to the other end, instead of dragging it over the entire screen.

Q: Body parts disappearing after being amputated?
A: If she has a 4-D body, they aren't really separated, only sorta bifurcated. The smaller parts/branches are reabsorbed to her extradimensional "trunk"/main storage, and mass is replenished to the main 3-D body for regen.

As far as I remember, she's only really had to regenerate quickly while very very angry(was going to use pissed, but that means a few other things depending on where you are), so we don't actually know if the insane regen is there if she's not angry, she does have regeneration, and a headshot WON'T kill her, but if her regen is actually slower normally, then a headshot can possibly slow her down enough to do something, and assuming she still has some human style systems, removing her head, even temporarily, will slow the ramping up into an antimatter bomb, and if they can get in each shot before the shield goes up, they can possibly keep her from getting it up, until they run out of ammo at least, giving them a few minutes, with at least 3 snipers working together, to do something. And if they did it right, there's a good chance she won't explode as an antimatter WMD. I know severed parts implode, but this might be one of the ways to kill her human form without her exploding and killing a good portion of the human race. I should note that I'm assuming that as she's emulating humans, she has specific human limits, a spinal column that links the brain to the rest of the body, requirement to have eyes to see, and the capacity to be stunned.

And in this case, the winning condition is to make the body unusable, requiring the entity to withdraw to really anywhere else. That can be done by freezing the body, not just covering it with ice, but actually freezing it, incinerating it, or in some other way destroying it.

Naturally we don't know if any of this could work, and they can't know without testing Tennyo to destruction, which they can't ethically do and probably couldn't do anyway as she wouldn't let them do it, if it works at all, it would likely just be holding action, slowing her down to allow an evacuation or to try to delay her long enough to get people who can actually go against her in an almost fair fight. Dragonslayer tactics would probably work too, but you'd need heavy weapons and probably more people.

Jana and Sted are special cases -- due to a sort-of competition Babs ran in the forums years ago, and that she decreed that Xaltatun and me won (I still trying to figure out exactly what did I do to win the contest...), we were invited to contribute a character each for a cameo. The original idea was to place both in the Hot Tub Party, but by a very weird coincidence both Xalt and I sent Whitman-dwelling magic-users with the ability to change into, among other things, centaurs (Jana and Sted are otherwise quite different). Since the Hot Tub party was Poe-only, they ended up being used in the Faction 3 meet.

I didn't begin to write Jana's story until years later. I don't remember right now when Xalt started posting Sted's stories, but I don't think it was much of an ongoing concern before the contest -- Xalt probably was already working on the story, but it's fully possible that nothing had been posted yet before the contest.

So, Sted and Jana aren't quite "ascended fanfic characters."

More importantly, Tennyo's physiology is distinctly non-human. She doesn't breathe. Food enters her body but does not leave, yet somehow this does not increase her mass. Parts of her can sometimes become antimatter. Back when they were still able to analyse her cellular structure, the docs found that she no longer even has DNA. You can't even really call her a human being, so much as a human mind OS being emulated on some unknown hardware that is decidedly more advanced than a human body.

What does all that imply? Tennyo's brain may not even be in her head anymore: she could keep it in her torso, in several redundant structures throughout her body, or even somewhere other than her corporeal body entirely. Shooting her in the head may mean about as much to the Star Stalker as trimming your nails, or removing a few hairs from your head.

Exactly. In the fight between Gateway and Bladedancer and the Spy Kidz and Lit Chicks in Ayla and the Networks, Foxfire and Lifeline (maybe) were taken out by the TLW stealing Essence from them. The fact that the TLW have no way to store the Essence and the fact that the battle caused the container it was in to shatter and for the Essence to return to its original owners is beside the point. Had they been able to escape the battlefield with the Essence container intact, they probably would have gotten away with it.

If you are referring to her body parts "exploding" when removed from her, you are wrong. It always happen. They were unable to take a blood sample from her since the blood just disappeared, and inside an hermetic container the thing just imploded.
Note that it is normally an implosion, not an explosion.

Would a headshot that remove her entire head actually stop her? We don't know that. It would blind and deafen her, sure.
From what we know it'd last less than half a dozen seconds She has recovered from entire limbs being torn off in a couple of seconds and even continuous fire by heavy artillery (vulcan cannon) was barely enough to slow her down. When they stopped firing she was able to fight almost instantaneously, so her regeneration happened about as fast as that sort of weapon can inflict damage.

Finally, entombing or flash-freezing her would NOT actually stop her either.

Actually, I was offered the choice of either taking over Phase (they had been looking for someone who could write him the way they wanted and also work with the Cabal) or else creating my own character(s) (as Heather and JG and EE did).

At the time, I chose Door Number 1. A couple years later, the idea for Anna's combat final arose, and then she took on a life of her own. (Her winter novel was only supposed to be 3 chapters, but she's a busy girl.)

Then the Cabal asked me if I was ever going to introduce an Author Avatar for the Lit Chix (Golden Girl was originally planned as ScramblerJ's avatar but I turned her into an antagonist), so I figured an avatar of me would be nerdy and Jewish and annoying and unable to deal with her OCD... and that would also explain why she was never around in the early Lit Chix stuff. Voila! Fractious was born.

Because his business isn't going to be liked by his family, they go out of the way to stir the public opinion against the mutants, Ayla is doing his best to integrate them as productive members of the society, the Goodkind see the mutants as a plague that should be removed or at very least controlled, Ayla is working to allow them to have fullfilling lives, in short Ayla's work has the potential of proving the Goodkinds opinion to be wrong and eventually stir the public opinion to a tollerant approach towards the mutant population hence it has to be destroyed, just think about what they did to Trevor when he manifested, they are fanatics and Ayla will have to fight them to keep his business (and possibly himself) alive.

Judging by that, it appears as though Jobe wasn't too keen on using the backup tool (for a start, "buggy as hell" indicates it doesn't create perfect backups...), and if (s)he could get away without using it he would. So it may be that the last backup is a few years old.

If Jobe has access to the backups, she may do some tinkering to produce a "partner" that's comprised mainly of Wilkins DNA and which she can marry purely to maintain her place in the succession (presumably with the intention of the "partner" quietly expiring soon after so he can't usurp her), or (more sneakily) she'll go without a partner full stop - relying on her knowledge of the Karedonian magma management system to force her relatives' hand, and possibly create a baby Wilkins based on genetic modification of the DNA of several of her relatives.

In time, she may even need the mechanical engineering experience of Belphy to achieve her goals - if Belphy hasn't lost her idealised vision of being a princess by then she may be eager to help for precisely that reason.

I suppose the parody was probably more to do with the way heroines are often posed in comparison with heroes than that particular example. Thinking about it, while her pose does show off her rear end, (a) she's wearing a black bodysuit, which is rather more practical than your average heroine costume, (b) we're looking at her rear end rather than the upper part of her chest, (c) The Most Common Superpower would seriously hinder her, and (d) she's in the background rather than up front.

While her costume was probably designed to show off certain parts of her anatomy, it was also designed to be practical.

Bear in mind also that at least two canon stories (Diane's The Turks and the Geek and Drunkfu's Abyss) started off life as fanfics and were deemed so good their respective authors got elevated to canon status. Diane was then given control of a more-or-less abandoned central character, and the rest, they say, is history

After all, both canon and fanfic stories are written by hobbyist authors whose motivation is primarily the love of writing rather than any financial gain.

I just wish a few mainstream publications (either online or print) could make mention of Whateley, so giving us some notable sources for a Wikipedia article Although Whateley has extensive representation across TV Tropes and the occasional personal blog, they don't count as notable sources.

Sending the Slytherins on a Wild Harry Chase - brilliant! And it sets the scene for a very easy way to distract Slytherins from whatever the remainder of DA get up to - look out of windows and bespell random objects to move around, or (if possible) bespell an object to move without requiring to be within line-of-sight of a wand at the time. The Slytherins will be so preoccupied with thinking Harry's sneaking around they (probably) won't think of looking for other possible means of locomotion.

As for Amelia Bones and the Ministry Official from Book 7, just swap them around in the timeline - so the Ministry Official got killed in Book 5, thus allowing Amelia (and the rest of the Bones clan) to be saved.

[EDIT]Skimming through my copy of Book 7, Charity Burbage (Muggle Studies teacher) gets killed almost as soon as the book opens (p17-18), after being held captive at Malfoy Manor. It's then implied she becomes dinner for Nagini. Page 96 and Riddle's on the hunt for Gregorovitch, while on page 145 Rowle gets into trouble for reporting Harry's disappearance. On Page 200, Cattermole's wife is about to be interrogated, but it's assumed she gets away OK after being helped to escape by Harry, Hermione and Ron in disguise. Page 230 sees Gregorovitch get killed. So that's the main deaths from bit-part characters in the first third of the book.

You are counting on trauma and functional damage to incapacitate her briefly.

This is, sad to say, /unwise/ when dealing with Tennyo. She's been shown to simply /ignore/ having nearly half of her body torn off.

The implication of that? A headshot that does not /completely remove/ her brain has a very good chance to not interrupt her consciousness significantly enough to stop her from killing you or going on the defensive.

And one that does may not be guaranteed to.

And she's pretty tough. Even if she doesn't have her sheild up, you're looking at anti-aircraft ordinance to do that kind of damage to her.

That said..it's still possible. A sniper rifle built for that kind of thing, enough range...
...of course, there's a problem.

A few dozen seconds or so.

And that's too long. Her head is not half her body. So you have, oh, ten seconds, twenty if you're lucky, to not only head shot her, but apply whatever you were going to use to seal the job.

Provided decapitation doesn't trigger reflexive wild ass plasma blasting on the part of her lower nervous system or something. If that happens - and it's the star stalker, it might - you're screwed. By the time it's safe to stop dodging plasma bolts, she's going to be back - and mad.

Oh, and congratulations. You decapitated her.

either way, Anna is awesome and I'd like to see what she can do. there have been hints of her having an interesting summer and I think a slightly changed attitude might come out of it. I honestly see Anna being a decent fighter with the right backing even without her being overly powerful like some of the others. Is Team Tactics a prerequisite for sim time? I doubt it because Outcast Corner was taking part in sim matches before taking Team Tactics. And isn't Aquerna part of Wondercute? If she is on an official training team, I think that eliminates the Underdog Exemption Clause.

Personally? Depends on who's team I'm on.

On a team with Diamondback: Sweet, now I just have to teach Diamond to scream "DEATH FROM ABOVE!" before dropping on unsuspecting opponents.
