Has anyone in the Whateleyverse ever gone to another world where history went differntly, say one where Russia rules the world?

And how well does alternate history as a book genre. I can see H1 using book like that as propaganda.

Question
What would this ability be classified as?

Mental Shapeshifter
They change their personality, way of thinking, and personal perspective while retaining all previous and present memories.

Examples
Default mind: ?
Android Mindset: Emotionless, actions taken based upon short term, long-term profit/loss predictions. (Includes their assessment of how commonly used Mindsets will react to their and each others actions.)
Joyous Rage Mindset: Hmmm... Omnicidal Maniac. Very, very happy one. Actions taken based on the desire to terrify and destroy based upon the list of targets and preferred targets in memory/threat level/accessibility.
Etc.:

Part of it seems like the PSYchic ability to rewrite another persons mind but used on yourself, however the original concept had them creating these Mindsets like you might create a mask, and that sounds like an ESPer ability.

More on the subject.
Extra
Maybe this should be in character crea... Wasn't there a character creation Sub-Forum? Well maybe this should be there, but despite the temptation of doing the combat finals this character eventually gained I'm unlikely to actually use them.

Coercive Telepathy

Since this concept gelled after reading Author "Kristen Darken's" "Fling" stories, I was wondering if anyone knew how their mental shapeshifting worked.

There are two conflicting times for Fae and Stalwarts first date, just wondering witch one was true?

The first possible date is early October: Fae mentioned her date in Reflections in an Evil Eye (early October) and again from Ayla's point of view in Alya and the Tests #3. The Devil's Dance supports this since Fey and Stalwart are seen dancing together.

The second time is in late November: in The Play's the Thing where Wallflower and Hank convince Fey to go on a double date with them.

Leonardo da Vinci: Is that so?

Some of the best things in life are simple. And some of the merely good things are simple too Smile .
That also goes for video games, some of my favorite ones are simple flash games (something that isn't that uncommon according to XKCD).

Here's one I've been enjoying a lot (too much?) recently:

I've been looking for this one Whateley fan fic I can't seem to find any more. It was about this speedster girl that had an imaginary friend off which she based her BIT(?), that at the end got merged into a sort of second personality while she slept?

I also remember a part were it was that one US holiday with the fireworks and she drank some soda/carbonated drink and that kinda messed her up.

The story itself might have been framed as a blog(maybe, might be thinking of another story).

These are all vague and cloudy memories. Help would be much appreciated.

Ok, I am starting this topic because sometimes, for some reason, we come across some piece of art and we tend to associate it to a person, not because it has anything to do with this person, but something about it just reminds us of him/her. All in all the basic concept is very similar to 'Theme Music' thread, just that it isn't restricted to music (it can be music, a picture, a video, poetry, whatever) and isn't restricted to character from the stories.

With that said, lets try to keep it civil and politically correct. This is meant to be like the 'Theme Music' thread, just less focused, lets keep trolling, politics and flaming out of it.

Now, just to play it safe, I'm going to play with fire and dedicate a piece to a Canon Author: J.G., it's meant to be in good spirit and I hope he will like it, if not I apologize. Anyway the piece of art is a parody video from YouTube:

"TNT" - A Minecraft Parody of Taio Cruz's "Dynamite"

Now, if anyone in the CC (TINCC) can get J.G. to comment I would really appreciate it, even if it's just a "I don't like it."

"Each year, as a special Christmas project, Amy L. Rawson makes a felted Santa Cthulhu, and this year is no exception."

Via Geeks Are Sexy - click the link to see images (800x800, so a little large to display here).

Quote:
"The needle felted Santa Cthulhu is a collaborative project between myself and fellow artist, Brian East. Santa, his fishy presents, the fireplace, stockings, and even the plate of cookies are all needle felted solidly from wool. Santa stands about 13″ tall, while the fireplace is about 7″ tall. Santa Cthulhu is a one-of-a-kind creation, and original work of art (and not intended as a toy, even though he looks soft and cuddly). Let him bring a little evil into your holiday this year!"

I have an idea to do a poll and donation driven storyline. I'll probably start it off around November or December.

Here's the concept. The world is attacked by several groups that have the power to convert people into their willing soldiers.

The invaders each follow one charismatic, powerful leader that was the initial point of each group: a seed. But each of them has grown to become a conquering god or goddess (probably goddess) and care only for their own interpretation of how things should be, heedless of any balance or respect for free will. Usually, they have spread through other dimensions only one or two at a time, but this time they have come to a world all at once.

The invaders:

Order and Chaos

The Network - People and creatures collected from many universes, all of whom were infected by some techno-organic cybervirus that has turned them into beings of living metal and circuitry. They value order and logic and seek to define and sterilize everything.

The Hive - Individuals caught in the cocoons of the Hive become insectile and arachnid warriors and builders that press on to build a wild, chaotic hive across the face of the world. They take what they can use and care not for its intended purpose.

Life and Death

The Arcadians - Beautiful fae sorceresses, powerful shapeshifting animal people all harking to the call of life over everything else. They seek to tear down the bastions of artifice and raise beautiful palaces of supernaturally grown structures.

The Shoud - Mysterious spirits and things that are not quite dead or alive. They seek to control death for their own purposes, determining who lives and who dies and who among the dead shall be allowed to rest.

Harmony and Discord

The Host - Angelic and full of light, The Host seek to enforce cooperation under their banner and shatter any disagreement whether righteous or not. They believe it is their right to decide how all people and forces should interact.

The Abyss - Bizarre and often demonic in appearance, the Abyss shatters all agreements and organization, not caring whether or not the relationship is harmful or not. They seek to keep everything at war, endlessly.

*****************

Most of the individuals of each group will appear more or less human, but be capable of shapeshifting into a not human form at need. However, focus is going to be on Da Sexay, so mostly human. Think monster girl encyclopedia.

*****************

Among the people taken in the initial assault, six women or girls are taken, but their transformation somehow runs awry and instead of being another minion, they instead become new seeds. After which they escape from the invaders out into the multiverse and arrive in other worlds. At which point they begin adventures in an effort to deal with what they have become, make it back to their own world, and save it from the invaders, perhaps freeing other universes along the way.

They'll have to deal with the dangers of each world they pass through and the temptation to use their powers and create followers of their own.

Will they come to a proper balance and rationality? Will they be able to acquire followers without suppressing free will?

The cyborg who defines and illuminates the truth? The metamorphic butterflies who bring change and evolution? The kind folk whose touch is soothing and rejuvenating? The quiet guardians of the final mystery who guide those to their just reward? The angel who brings an end to pointless conflict and feuds? The demon who topples tyranny or oppression?

Or will they become just like the invaders themselves?

And do the forces behind the invaders come from the power that made the conquerors into seeds, or do they only give shape and appearance to what was in their heart already?

*****************

Content will probably include quite a bit of sex, yuri and transformation, though I'm not planning a plot-what-plot? thing. There will be a plot, character development and action. I'll mostly keep it to PG-13, though some of it will definitely have a mature tag. Mood will primarily be hopeful, but there will be death, there will be trauma and there will be character development angst.

I want it to remain more entertaining than heavy.

The story will move through different worlds. The characters won't start out knowing each other and might end up meeting in different adventures. Some of the worlds they travel through will have their own threats, some will be completely normal (from our view). Some might be a mix, such as a more or less normal world where most of the people are elves or orcs or whatnot.

*****************

How I'll go about this?

Polls and paypal.

As it comes time to write a new portion of the story, I'll put up two or three polls:

Which character(s) to focus on
What does the character decide to do
What are some potential consequences

Everyone gets the free vote that comes with opening a DA poll.

However, you can purchase more votes by donating to my paypal: thrythlind@gmail.com

$1 = +5 votes
$5 = +30 votes

Paypal gives you the option to include a message with the money, so put your vote there. This gives me a record and alerts me that's part of the New Seeds money. There's no limit to how much you can donate.

*****************

What am I using the money for?

Primarily, purchasing art for the story that I will be writing. The more money I get, the better quality of art I can afford to purchase and still have some money to live on or spend on other projects.

Granted, if by some fluke of the internet this becomes wildly popular and I'm getting mounds of donations every poll, I'll start doing it for a living, but that's always the dream and any of these projects...mainly I just do it for fun and because writing is what I do.

*****************

You expect us to pay for this?

No, I don't. I'm giving you the option to, because on my own this will go pretty slow, see below.

Everybody will get one vote free and everybody will be able to read the stories for free.

I expect to lose money on this to start, since I'll be paying for the connected art from my "for fun" budget. If it gets popular, then hopefully, the quality of art and the speed of update will both improve as I'm able to afford higher quality.

*****************

What if the story goes somewhere you're not comfortable writing about?

I'm controlling the available options and deciding how to implement the voted on option so expect it to stay comfortable for me. Note I want predominately escapism and adventurous fun with sexy transformation shenigans in a multi-genre, multi-dimensional romp and high-fantasy search to save the characters' home world and who knows how many others. Angst is expected in a good story, but it should also be resolved one way or another instead of dwelt on for too long.

*****************

What sort of art are you likely to use?

The art might include some nudity and some mid-way transformations. Action scenes may be included. To start with, expect lots of simple portraits, since more than that is expensive. Some might have mature tags, but it will stay in my comfort zone. (check out my galleries for examples...one thing, I don't really like degrading my characters...even the pic of Eija covered in bruises is rather dignified)

A list of some of the artists I'm familiar with is on my DA journal: http://fav.me/d5h5376

*****************

Well we be able to vote on the artist used?

No. The prices range pretty wildly, so that will be determined by whether or not I'm spending completely from my own pocket, or else have received donations via the voting.

The same goes for quality, notice that some of those artists have some rather cheap low-end prices....well there's a reason why the high end prices are high end.

Like I said, to start you're likely to see single character portraits.

*****************

How long will the story segments be?

I'll aim at about 6k words each time. That's anywhere from 3 to 20 hours of work, not including editing, depending on how easily it flows.

*****************

How often will these come out?

I already have about 60k words a month scheduled for my own projects, 6k-10k words a month on for hire projects, as well as teaching full time.

Which means my weekly work schedule will look like this:

40 hours - teaching/school related
24 hours - personal writing projects
2.5 hours - for hire projects (increased based on how much paid per month)
2.5 hours - New Seeds

69 hours per week

However, the New Seeds and For Hire stuff will likely be done all at once instead of spread out.

In any case, you're probably looking at once per month unless this really takes off. If I can get $30+ each new segment, this might reach 1/week (at which point my working hours go to 76.5 hours per week), though the connected art would come at the individual artist's pace, hopefully within a week or two.

*****************

When are you going to do the first polls?

I've actually already started, using them to help design the initial characters.

Currently on the third poll, so far, the first character is an 18-year old Japanese girl.

So i was watching it when it aired, but I missed a few episodes and didnt want to spoil by rejoining later on. Then i wound up forgetting for a while.

Yesterday i spent 252 moneys on manga though, and some of what i got was the tankoubons of this series.

The subject being a boy and girl who both want to be the opposite gender and their fairly complex relationships with one another and everyone else, I rather thought at least some of the CH gang would have some interest. So has anyone else seen it?

So, I've had, will have had by tomorrow, one day at each of my five schools this week. That's rarely happened before. The problem is that I've had to say good bye to all of my schools. The junior high classes were fairly subdued, I got commiseration from the genki girl and notes from the girls I coached on the speech contest. The elementary schools are all doing good bye gestures though. Today it was a medley of songs performed by their band starting with the Jaws theme and continuing for 5 minutes or so followed by a choir of four whole classes, laminated memory pictures and saying good bye to gymnasium full of students.

Wondering how hard tomorrow is going to be.
