This is actually part of the core skill set taught by the main esoteric orders that exist today... a combination of lucid dreaming and visualization techniques that are part of the foundation to any manipulation of reality through an act of willpower. I have a whole series of exercises you can work through if you are interested in doing so that were part of my lecture series from years ago when I was teaching classes in IRC on spell/energy work.

Strangely enough, its also part of the core skill set necessary for sound engineers/designers who mix live shows. This is because the engineer is 'never' in the same environment as the audience (even being in a single location in the audience and sacrificing those seats isn't the same as being in same environment as 'all' the audience). So to create the 'ideal' mix, the engineer has to find the right balance 'in the audience location' and then learn what that sounds like 'in the location that the engineer is placed.' Then there's the 'esoteric' step of convincing yourself that this is what you want things to sound like... and your on the fly show mix is done through the interpretive step of knowing what changes to your operation point sound like at points in the audience.

HI Gang,

I am so glad this discussion is going places.

I dream it then I write it. That is how I do my best writing. Imagination is more important than reality. At least in fantasy writing it is. It is a little harder in science fiction.

Some of the best writing is then staged in the "Theater of the Mind". I like these stories. They keep my attention. I day dream about the characters. I put myself into the stories and imagine "What would I do in such a situation?".

In a shared universe like this you can imagine sequels to the stories. Or add in your own characters and add to the stories. I don't have much yet to add to the fan fiction but I'm working on it. I started the "Letters to Ayla" and the "T-Shirts". I really can imagine a lot of what is being written.

Everybody keep up the good work!

E

Any chance something will show up tomorrow? Even if it's in Authors Corner?

Had to laugh and then mentally apply it to comic books heroes and Whateley:

Dear god I hope none of those. Especially since most people design their own costumes, rather than them being designed by men more concerned about attractiveness than actual viability.

...Then again, wasn't, like, Mega-Girl's costume ridiculously unfeasible, amongst others? And I know there's been a few mentions about crazy-objectifying costumes people have made for themselves for more-or-less no reason, but I can't remember most of them. They were largely tights, at least, though I think the worst of them was a leotard of some kind...

It's been a while. Someone confirm?
