Remember the sneaky Jap of World War II movies with the buckteeth and the round thick glasses? (Ruthlessly parodied in "Casey and Andy" if you go look through the archives.) Well, no one does that anymore. No.

Sax Rohmer, calling Sax Rohmer...

Yeah, he's dead, but still funny.

I laughed. But then, I read a bunch of those books.

I deliberately didn't mention that, because...

drumroll please...

Ayla is eventually going to get a 'Yellow Peril' enemy. Or two. But they'll be my own variants. (i.e., deeply weird)

You say this, and my mind jumps to:

"Ayla 10: Ayla and the Moo GOO Gai Pan"

Edit: Actually... that's kinda apt.

Yellow peril? Check.

Many-angled peril? Check.

Culinary peril? Check.

I think I'd be entertained.

"Ayla and the Sukiyaki Surprise"

Or is that "Sukiyaki Showdown"?

I'd just like to say I am a big fan of another Miyet story, as there's a lot of STUFF in there with her.

Big things: 1. Hartford's "not-evil" side.

2. The Doctor is a VERY interesting villain, who I hope gets a good, swift, pole up the...

3. What percentage of Miyet's friends and family being bitchy were Doctor influenced, which percent was actual.

Just one quip...

Why, Why are there so many dang FUNDIES! I'm REALLY tempted to make much emphasis on my character being a devout Christian, just for contrast! (Either in RP, Fanfic, or whatever)

Well, among others at Whateley, Phase is a devout Chistian (Episcopalian) who used to go to church every Sunday with his Mother, and... Oh yeah. That won't happen anymore. But Phase is *still* religious, and even wanted to go to Christmas Eve services.

I'm afraid you're seeing Squeaky Wheel Syndrome. No one writes about the hundreds of millions of people who aren't doing anything. There's no plot there.

Also, there are certain categories of villain who are pretty much off-limits these days. Remember the sneaky Jap of World War II movies with the buckteeth and the round thick glasses? (Ruthlessly parodied in "Casey and Andy" if you go look through the archives.) Well, no one does that anymore. No.

Now we have ninjas instead! Very Happy Very Happy

Well, given the story background and author interests, it makes sense that a fundamentalist would make a good villain. Still, a misled True Believer makes a good sympathetic character, if written well.

Diane

If I was writing for my character, I'd write him as either 'misled, but recovering quickly', or devout with a surprising attitude. (Doesn't mind the entire company of Poe, for instance). He DOES tend to read Goodhope, Humanity First, Enguld, etc...But generally laughs constantly while doing so.

And he'd read Buddhist, etc., literature. His idea? If any of this makes more sense then what I believe, then start rethinking things.

And how do you know the ninjas don't have buckteeth? They could easily have put on contacts just before their mission as well Wink

Who says she hasn't? After all...look what someone did to her for Halloween? She has been exposed to all sorts of things and for the record Bast totally loves the idea of an all purpose cultural cat girl. She even screwed with Corey by having him wake up looking like her one day. Thankfully, Miyet was back to normal after the initial panic attack.

Bast will have her revenge! or maybe a nap...naps are good...or tuna fish, that is also quite tasty...but revenge! (there are days I feel for the character)

Sadly, it is only in my head...sorry. But I may throw that into what ever story she comes to me with. Can't hurt, that's for sure.

Well they don't portray them as villains but when people think it's funny they trot out the image stereotype. What do you think William Hung from "American Idol" was all about? It was a racist joke in a way, one I found VERY unfunny. Asian's DON'T look like that on average. Seriously I've know a ton of Asian Americans in my life and NONE look like that. The closest I've known is a Korean American girl that might have looked slightly awkward but that was about it.

Look, as a Canadian, I don't get upset about the stereotype of the RCMP (Dudley DoRight), and I certainly don't get upset about the whole 'back bacon eating, toque, flannel, and earmuff wearing Thunder Bay resident' like they use in comedy. (In fact, the ones that came up with that, ending up in Strange Brew, were Canadians - and back bacon is pretty good)

So, why should anyone really get upset about stereotypes? It's how they are used that should be upsetting. Those old "Jap" stereotypes? They were side by side with the German stereotypes, and were used to ramp up feeling during WW-II. People today just can't remember history, to keep the image in perspective.

They just instantly jump on the THAT'S NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT bandwagon.

Now, I want to see someone slip Miyet some catnip, in the guise of 'herbal tea' or something. (Yes, catnip joke)
