There doesn't seem to be a shortage of men's hairdressers here, either, though there are only a couple which I would characterise as old-style barbers, like I went to as a kid.
There's one I used to go to which was staff entirely by women and though it might be a little sexist it did feel nice to be pampered by a more-or-less attractive woman. It was especially nice the first time, since I hadn't had a haircut in over a decade.
Last few times I was in there they had a man working there, so I guess either they had difficulty finding staff, or ran up against anti-discrimination employment legislation.
I would guess that the throughput is much better with male customers. Probably lower capital costs as well as the ones I know mostly don't do more expensive stuff like colouring and perms.
These days I do it myself as I don't care all that much how it looks, so long as it's tidy, and I got a hair trimmer for about the cost of two hair-cuts.

To be sure, yes, unisex hairdressers tend to be the norm nowadays. I myself patronize one.
But I still see some old-style barbershops around. Their two main attractions, I suppose:
1. Allegedly "manlier."
2. Cheap.
(This thread keeps bringing to mind that "Married with Children" episode where the guys' barber died. They kept complaining that they wanted a real barbershop, with old white tile walls and a mangy dog sleeping on the corner...)
And... in fact, there's a hairdresser salon which caters exclusively to men, near where I live. It's rather like a posh version of a barbershop -- basically the same layout as one, but all new and well-appointed like a dentist's office. The reason I don't go there? Well, it's about twice as expensive as the unisex one I use...
Don't call me Shirley. You will surely make me surly.

| curiousreader wrote on Fri, 27 January 2012 13:51 | Ok two not so quick questions with parts. Any info from the Powers That Be is much appreciated.
1. when is Graduation?
1a. Where does it take place?
1b. Do they have two different graduations, say one in spring and winters like some college campuses?
2. Does the school provide protection during gradation for parents who happen to be villains and supers so they don't have to worry about getting hassled trying to see their kids graduate?
|
[1] For the year 2007, the graduation will be held at 1 in the afternoon on Sunday, June 24.
[1a] It is usually held outside, but sometimes due to weather concerns it is held in Macfarlane.
[1b] No, there is not a separate graduation for fall or winter: the school is too small. And there is no requirement to appear at graduation.
[2] Of course. Still, some supervillains may opt to watch the graduation from the Bad Seeds hideout, or even broadcast to them. Some will come anyway. Some won't care enough to show up: hey, they're supervillains! They're not all Dr. Dad.
[3] You didn't ask, but seniors can opt out of their last combat final right before graduation. This simplifies a lot of things, including grading and keeping more people out of the hospital.

I don't think so, while the Accademy is neutral it can't break the law harboring wanted criminals would be breaking the law, unless the criminal secret identity is unknown, if that is the case the parent can go to the graduation and expect to be protected like the parents of any other kid (after all how can the Accademy know that Villanious and Mr Smith are the same person if nobody does? That's probably the reason why they have a retired Lady Hydra teaching costuming, nobody can prove that she is a wanted criminal) but they can't go there in their villanious identity or the Accademy will be forced to hand them over to the law enforcement (the exceptions could be Gizmatic due the diplomatic immunity, same thing would go for Lord Paramount but he isn't a supervillain anymore ).
For those that can't see their kid's graduation there might be a webcam or something like that, or maybe not, after all they knew that being a criminal has its drawbacks when they choose their career.
At least, this is what I think, it could be different in Canon.
EDIT:
I might have just put my foot in my mouth....

.... or maybe not? Does the protection cover harboring known wanted criminals?

I was going to say that it was probably black, based on my high school experience, but I remembered that my school had an option to have dark green robes one year. I do know that for colleges, associates and bachelors wear black, masters wear black with a hood in the school colors, and a group of doctors in formal is a riot of conflicting colors and hats that would make any Jaeger drool.

Just two more:
1.Are the robes traditionally black or is it their school colors...not sure what that would be. At my school I had a blue robes because the school colors where blue and white.
2. What day is the last day of the semester for students?
2a. Do senior stay longer for graduation?
2b. How so after graduation do they have to move out, that day or tomorrow?
2c. For devisors if they had not finished their projects by graduation day can they stick around to finish it up, or no go?
|
That's *five* more. You now owe me 3 questions from this one and 2 from the previous one.
[1] Black, with specific exceptions covered under the Whateley handbook.
[2] Last day of classes, Friday Jun 8. First day of finals Monday Jun 11. Last day of finals Friday Jun 22.
[2a] Yes, but some undergrads stay to watch graduation too.
[2b] Monday, June 25. All students who can leave campus must be off campus by 5 pm. Some students CAN'T leave, so there are special exemptions. Hawthorne has to run year-round, for obvious reasons. A student who cannot leave because, say, she is being sought by a powerful demon that is held out by the campus wards, moves into an empty Hawthorne room for the summer.
[2c] Devisers trying to get school credit have to have their projects done by class deadlines, which will not extend past finals, and in many cases end before finals start. Devisers building stuff for themselves will have to take their stuff home.
Okay, now it's time for my questions. Let me see...

What about those kids like Sharissa that have people trying to kill them if they go back home?
Those that have no more family?
And is there a summer program for those kids that want to spend their hollidays training in something? (Kind like a longer winter term, probably it won't be doable with the Workshop as it has to be dismantled and rebuilt from scratch every year but most of the other classes should be doable)

| Alternatively, are there Summer Camps for mutant kids?
... mmm...
Welcome to Kamp Karedonia?
|
Yes, there are summer camps for mutants. Well, there's at least one in the U.S. Jobe is unlikely to be caring enough about GSD cases and orphans to hold Camp Karedonia, and the people Jobe *does* know have supervillain parents and don't need summer camp.
Also, there are special circumstances for kids who can't go home for one reason or another. Remember the kid who is being pursued by some sort of otherwordly thing and is scared to leave the school wards? Plus the kids who can't go home because of family issues or H1 or... Plus we have people in Hawthorne who really can't leave Hawthorne at all, or can only leave it for short times. Does anyone want to see what would happen if Frostbite got caught in a sudden summer shower? Or Static Girl in a thunderstorm? So there are special concerns on cmapus and special dealings for some kids off campus.

Of course, the real question here is: what are Jade and Billie going to blow up--ahem--do this summer?
