If you look back through these threads you'll see that Warren explained that, for reasons unknown, the back-ups were indeed stored on the same disc as the live site. So when that disc crashed it took out the latest back-ups as well. Hence the roll back to early May 2009. It's Seemples!
John.

Why not? He gave a legitimate answer to a mostly legitimate question, which is more than I can say for the near slanderous post that followed.

I think it would be very funny to manage to have Trollo actually last a while, just because you have a Doctorate in Trolling, doesn't mean you have to be practicing, right?
Anyway, Welcome back, Trollo, here's to a long and hopefully somewhat amusing relationship.

Trollo, please get your criminal charges right, slander is defined as verbal, it should be the Libelous post that followed.

On an unrelated matter, or related depending on how you look at it, how does a single crash eliminate both the source and the backups? Presumably one wouldn't store the backup files for any media on the media that is being backed up.
|
For some definitions of "media".
I've seen disk crashes that took out or scrambled traffic across the whole bus (SCSI or IDE or FC or whatever), or more. One broken disk messing up the RAID controller some way or another hardly makes the news, and many people still think that RAID-1 on a single bus counts as "separate media" enough...
Why yes, I have had to deal with a RAID setup acting up because of one broken (hotswap) HD again within the last week.

I'm always in practice! Frankly, I was surprised to have this account validated. I was trying to bank on Warren having enabled automated account validations because of the crash, but I underestimated his/her/other dedication.
It just means I'll have to be sneaky about leaving mayonnaise packets under peoples tires instead of throwing mustard at the wedding.

Ah, but is that a state or federal law? For example, assult & batter are two separate things in california but in texas it's just assult.
| Nocte wrote on Sat, 21 May 2011 07:20 | It's mostly because we had a user called trololol or something, who insinuated that the reason there wasn't an update that week was because Warren was lazy. This was during the tax season and Warren was extremely busy with non-Whateley stuff.
Needless to say, he was swiftly banned and the board rejoiced.

Media as a word is sort of a variable defined in the manner it's used. An artists media are his paints and canvas, but if you were to say "An artist painting his media" it would just be his canvas or whatever his chosen surface is.
In the manner in which I used the term I would have assumed people would get the impression I was referring to a single non-mirrored drive. My troll senses tingled at the thought of someone storing a backup of a hard drive on the drive that was itself being backed up, as surely doing such a thing is unthinkable.
So as unthinkable as the previous situation was, though my surpassing intellect was more than able to think it as unthinkable as it may be, I was alternatively thinking thoughts that perhaps the backups were stored on a separate drive within the same machine and was curious as to what type of accident/atf/fbi seisure would destroy not one but both hard disks.

Oh no, I just crap in someone elses buffet in the interm. Being an actual fan of the Whateley universe I couldn't help but notice a disaster of this magnitude. Using my troll sensory perception I was able to sense that now would be a good time to slip in not quite unnoticed.

Just get people to make assumptions about your behaviour based solely upon your tag and they will troll themselves for you.
