Hm, well I have no intention of writing a fanfic, let alone entering the shadow cabal. At the same time, I don't think those two facts should get in the way of my pointing out The One True Right Way To Do Things to the rest of you sad, lost souls.
I'm a big fan of far future idea. Set it after TK and crew have already graduated, or are seniors and therefore so far outside of a freshman's social spectrum that contact can be kept to an occassional brush.
C'mon, how many people have spent idle time thinking up what might happen to (your favorite member of the Whateleyverse here) after they graduate? Jade and Tennyo, supervillains extraordinaire? Fey, the Queen of the West...ern fashion empire? Ayla, head of Goodkind Industries after a ten year revenge-quest to completely ruin and exile the hateful members of the Goodkind family? Erin as one of the secret cabal of Godlike beings that rule Greece? Heads of the second most powerful religion on earth, and warring with the Order of Kellith (the first)? How about the stunning and inexplicable turn of events that ended with Tansy Walcutt being the next Champion? *Goggle*
Pick the far flung future that most amuses you, and by no means exclude the Cannon Cabal! I'm sure they'd have loads of fun suggesting possible outcomes.
And since the point of these stories would be at least 3 years in the future (if you like the TK-as-Seniors idea), there's plenty of time of an entirely TG cottage. It's kind of inevitable, doncha think? Heck, I doubt it would even be secret in another 10 years. Too many TG incidents.

HEH.
Which brings up an odd situation: what if a student that nobody really liked made a power grab and ended up possessed by a spirit that forced them to become responsible and likeable? Inside, they're fighting and wailing at their fate, but the spirit forces them to be... *gasp*... friendly and popular!
Heck, throw in the idea of it being a male student forced to turn into a girl, and you've got a new character.
"Sure random female student that I barely know, I'll help you carry that."
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
"Say, this is an awfully nice room... you're changing clothes? Well, if it makes you comfortable..."
We hates you, spirit! Curse you! Curse all of... *wide eyed amazement as the hot babe undresses*
*Hot girl-girl sex*
"Wow, I really enjoyed that. Was it good for you?"
*Blush* ... I hate you, spirit.
