Some of you may remember that the game that I've been watching for some time through its development process, Secret World, has had some great influences that may even trace back to discussions I had with players and devs connected to them during my Anarchy Online playing days. They've now set their release date for next spring and are about to kick off beta testing.

For those of you who have been following some of my discussions on GEO / Wisdom's Price; you will be interested to note that Secret World is classless/level-less like my own plans. Unlike my plans, however, it is set in a contemporary world that resembles the Whateley Universe very significantly... only substituting open 'superhero' uses of empowered / mutation with behind the scenes 'conspiracy agents.' It's got a healthy dose of Lovecraftian influences and will have active 'real world' gaming/puzzles in addition to those in-game.'

I've taken a brief glance at that game a while ago with a friend. It looked interesting, and got me curious. Though there are some nice mechanics, like discovering data about monster to see how they live, and their weaknesses... But I'm tend to be careful about MMOs, and another friend of mine is not too keen on it. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Uh, why post something about a small seaside town in this topic? I can't see a reason. Unless it's some sort of alternate reality gaming thing.

Heyla, khade

Funcom has really gotten into the whole "virtual world" concept for TSW and has created a number of sites and accounts, solely to aid in milieu immersion. That link was specifically made for the game.

Yes, Kingsmouth doesn't actually exist... its a location in The Secret World. However, the main reason I linked it here is the following quotes:
Quote:
Solomon Island is home to Innsmouth Academy, an exclusive private school for students with very special and unique talents!

Quote:
The planning of this year's Kingsmouth Day has started. As usual, we extend an invitation to all non-residents of Kingsmouth to become honorary members of our proud Town by being dunked in the Miskatonic River before the warmth of spring has truly set in.

Heyla, KD

I actually abandoned TSW after an awkward pre-order experience followed up by rather unsettling customer service. Sadly, I almost prepaid by Paypal and that would have avoided the whole issue but now? Too late.

Good luck with the game but I have enough other distractions that losing one, even one that looked to be really good, is not that big of a deal.

Who did you order through, EA?

I ordered directly through Funcom using my existing account with them and had zero problems. And hopefully it will turn out as good as I'm expecting it to... because I went ahead and purchased my lifetime subscription to it.

Heyla, Kristin

I ordered a lifetime subscription and the initiate pack as well, through a new Funcom account but using an American Express. I had played AO but it has been awhile so I could not remember that account offhand. -sheep- I still think of it wistfully but I took it as a bad sign that the card I chose to use could not resolve (A known issue with Funcom and AMEX cards) but then the primary responder ignored the entire detail text of the trouble ticket I sent in via email.

Doing some beta testing...

This game friggen' rocks.

I wanted to screenshot the road sign pointing to Dunwich but I'm under NDA so it'll have to wait.

But just as an example... I had to research 17th century painters tonight to solve a mission. Games for smart people... gotta love it.

Isn't the game supposed to be out by now?

Nah, they pushed back the release from the original estimates. Middle of next month (June), now.

Ok, having preordered to play the weekend beta, I can say...

This game RAWKS!

I enjoyed it immensely today, though I'm looking forward to joining my chosen faction (Dragons) and kicking ass in the name of Chaos. Very Happy
