two things...

First, do we have a new encoding format for later posts on the whats new page, if so, what do I need to change my encoding to?

2nd, about the same page, is it possible to set up an RSS?

Encoding: Western (Windows 1252) or Western (ISO-8859-1) both work.

There shouldn't be, just an error that there hasn't been enough time to fix.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that what we generally get each week is pretty big, and would be difficult to use with a RSS system. Of course you should take that with a mine of salt, as I've never used RSS before and have no idea whatsoever how it works.

OK, the idea is that it will still continue as UTF-8 encoding, it's just that the latest update didn't get cleaned up properly and came through as Western; so the encodings I listed work to make the latest stuff look proper. In theory, the encoding will get cleaned up and work as UTF-8.

Consider it part of the teething process as things get worked out under new management. The main page got updated, and this is good.

If you want a RSS feed, I've kludged together a script that converts the main page into a RSS feed (but it is a kinda fragile kludge, the recent updates broke it for a bit)

As Diane said in another thread, the bad encoding was a mistake that they didn't catch until it got posted.

The encoding Warren has been using for the last few years has been plain 7-bit ASCII, which means that any encoding you set your browser to works. If you go into the various story files and look, you'll see that right up front, within the first half dozen or so lines.

It's up to the feed's author what goes into each article posted to the feed - other episodic fiction feeds I'm subscribed to include the title/author and a link to the story on their website, but you could include a similar blurb as gets posted on the front page.

It scares the hell out of me, the end is all I can see.

Well, looks like the main site is back in action, and I've cleaned up the RSS script, so things should work again Smile

The URL is now http://www.mutabah.net/whateley_rss.php (the old one still works, just this is the "correct" one now)

Let's see if I end up putting my foot in my mouth again.
