How do you play?[ 17 vote(s) ]

So, this game is pretty big news. Just wondering what the folks here are doing in the land of Skyrim. How do you play with no Class? What do you think of Dragons? What's your favorite Voice?

Personally, I'm running 3 folks right now. First up is a True Mage, a Wizened old Imperial spewing Lightning from each hand and chugging Potions like a Boss. Then I've got my Battlemage, trusty Nuva of High Rock, who's been with me since Morrowind, with Axe and Spell and armour of Steel. And last of all (for now, at least) is my new Argonian girl Breaks-Through-Walls, a veritable Dervish of damge with dual Maces and Fists of Steel.

Is anyone else incredibly happy that they've finally coded it so you can have Gautlets increase unarmed damage?

Option 9: I don't play at all.

I would, however, be pleased at gauntlet modifiers being counted in unarmed combat, presuming you're wearing them. To do otherwise is just wrong.

edit: How do I play with no class? Um, well, I try to have class, but sometimes my social skills just aren't up to it.

I've been playing a Mage/Thief type... this is where the no class system shines, really, it leaves your development up to you. I was worried that you'd get the Oblivion problem where you basically levelled everything at once but that's not going to be the case.

Why? They've properly incentivized the use of various skills. Want to be a mage? You'll probably want to be wearing Novice Mage Robes to start with that make your Magicka regen 50% faster. And take the perks that halve spell costs as you level.

My only current issue is power levelling Illusion spells.

Illusion, huh? I generally have more of a problem with Conjuration, as that's my basic 'start the fight off right' spell type- summon a familiar or atronach to watch my back- I don't level Destruction or others as much due to going sword-and-board (or axe, rather) in actual combat. Open with Ze Magicks, close with the blade.

Which spells you using the most?

I'm running a breton knight with a healthy dose of magic for backup.

My favourite distraction so far is to go deer hunting - with lightning.

Right now, Sparks and Summon Fire Atronach. If you're going to rock magic, you really need those 'half magicka to cast' perks.

Illusion I'm having problems with because it's hard finding spells for it. At least, I've found that to be the case. But I want to level it up to get the Silent Casting perk.

I have a mix of weapons, Destruction Spell in left hand + sword in right default. Bow and arrow for sneaking. Spells in both hands for going all out DPS.

OK, this is really making me want to play the game, if only I wasn't positive that my computer wouldn't be able to handle it and I could actually afford to get a new game right now...

Hey, you never know. Minimum requirements are rather low, all things considered. Only 3 Gigs ram, and even relatively low power graphics cards should be able to handle stuff on lowest setting.

Though I have run into a little issue when it comes to the 'low quality' setting, in that I cannot see all the fancy sparklies from Magicka use- no flames, barely any lightning, and the Clairvoyance spell is absolutely useless.

Sneak and bow for when I can get away with it... (which is most of the time to be honest)

Sword, board and magic when I can't...

Something oddly satisfying about sniping an entire camp of bandits from the other side of a valley... Mwahahahahahahahaaaa

I'll have to go with option 9 myself. I could list the reason why the game doesn't draw me to it, but I'd rather avoid an argument on something so based around tastes.

But people are talking about it all over. I'll just batten the hatches, and wait for the storm to pass.

I'd love to go all bow-y, but I seem to be having issues with drop-off. Do you know the relative drop distances? Is it more even than Oblivion, or further?

Just finished mastering smithing this afternoon so I have a lovely legendary set of Glass armour to stroll around in. Smile

Generally for combat I summon a fire atronach at the start then wade in with the sword and board while my wizard companion and elemental provide long range support.

I didn't budget for it, so the price tag was a bit of a shock. As such, its questionable whether I get it or SWTOR when my new year game budget is available (I typically have a slow week at the theatre at the top of the year before things get insane again... and I often spend much of it with a new game). Whichever one I go with will probably be my game focus through April when The Secret World goes live. Unless I get into TSW beta before then.

I'm really enjoying it. The first weekend after it came out (Fri-Sun) I put 29 hours into it Very Happy . I'm running combat, with greatswords and heavy armor. Only need 2 more pieces of Daedric armor to complete my set! I got the blacksmithing perks up to Daedra, and I'm currently working on enchanting. It's a real pain to level up, as each time I want to enchant a trash item, I have to select all 3 components by hand. On the other hand, soul gems aren't a problem as I enchanted an Orcish greatsword so that it automatically steals souls.

My weapon for when things get dangerous is a Daedric greatsword enchanted with fire damage. Also, it is enhance to (Legendary) rank, and because of my blacksmithing perks, that adds a ton of damage.

So far, my favorite Shout is Become Ethereal. It lets me run up to spellcasters without getting bombarded by heavy damage spells. I plan on trying wards, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. In fact, Become Ethereal was the only reason I could complete the Azura's star quest, as there are several powerful Daedra towards the end. Also, I got a few Daedra hearts from them, which I used to forge some equipment.
