Well, I guess the obvious question: What is your progress with a continuation? Part 1 left us with a cliffhanger...

Right now, it's kind of on the backburner; I'm doing a fair bit of development work on some stuff for the IRC roleplay crowd.

It might be wise to include links to stories that these posts are about in the OP thread.

Ah, fair point. File hierarchy has been a little weird.

Re reading it I wonder why Greasy didn't just say, "Yes, it's a collapsible bo staff" rather admitting it was meant to be a stripper pole? I mean it would have been dishonest but honesty was likely to get him beat with a big metal pole. Very Happy

Greasy has no qualms about being dishonest. Unfortunately, he has to use his brain for that, and he's a teenaged boy. A teenaged inventor. He only accesses his brain when he's in Workshop.

Not to mention that saying 'Yeah, it's a bo staff' will in the end raise -more- questions. Everyone knows what Greasy makes, and it's definitely not extendable staves for hand-to-hand fighting. Especially not ones that go out to about twelve feet long and have high-friction contact patches on each end.

If you wanted to look at it on a metasyntactic level, Greasy's honesty here is actually representative of the learned helplessness that he's internalized as a result of his life experiences; nothing he does ever works out, so why bother lying in the first place unless there's something more to it that fails to reinforce this prevailing worldview?

I just figured he decided that as long as he was honest, he'd be less likely to be hurt in the long run.

Greasy is a good devisor, it is just that nothing he does ever works out the way he wanted it to. That has nothing to do with his skill as a devisor, and everything to do with his life sucking.
