Should stories be delayed to preserve the timeline?[ 26 vote(s) ]
1.Yes! I don't want to know what happens ahead of time. 4 / 15%
2.No, I hate waiting! Show me what you've got! 8 / 31%
3.Depends on how big the spoilers are. 14 / 54%

Right now we have a few stories waiting in the wings for others to catch up, but it seems a few of you are getting antsy to see something out there.

Of course an author might delay a story for their own reasons. I just wanted to know what you all think.

Hmmm....I need a new sig.

I said depends, but I know that begs the question. As far as I'm personally concerned, I don't really mind out of order stories as long as the continuity is fairly obvious. What I mean by obvious is that I'm more likely to be right than wrong in understanding why a character is doing something in Story 3 if Story 2 is missing.

That's likely to be rather specific to various people.

I know some key stories are missing; IP4, Learning Curve, Parent's Night. We've already seen Sara post IP4, and I don't really care who in Security got removed (as long as it's obvious - a couple of lines in Hive 2 would do fine.) We know the Captain survived. The Lt.? Utterly dispensable person as far as I can tell. Something else important? Not a clue whether the missing piece would throw me off.

I like teasers or spoilers up to a point.

Too much will spoil the fun of the eventual read somewhat, it depends how much is revealed and how good the story is. Thought not Whateley, Renae's 'After the Ashes' pts 1 & 2, I've reread to death, its that good. Very Happy Reading the whole story is the ultimate spoiler. Good stories can survice spoilers. The same with my favorite parts of Whateley. Warren's are some of the best, they tease but reveal little. Maggie's teaser for her long delayed Learning Curve was more detailed but ok too. I will celebrate the day Maggie can finish it. Smile

I'm willing to wait as long as I have a sense a reward is down the road. RL can be major pain and I don't begrudge the authors one inch of delay for it. Your family comes first, then your friends and hobbies. RL beat the snot out my family and I in 2005 - I lost my Aunt Jane, my Mother Ellen and my older sister Ann - so I sympathize. Sad

I find writing is a way to remember lost loved ones and fight any sadness, I hope it's the same for the Whateley crew.

Best wishes to all, let's hope RL is a lamb this year and we'll all be complaining how there was too much to keep up with at Whateley in 2006.

I say it depends on how large the spiler is going to be if you post the stories out of order. I for one dont care about waiting for the stories.

It sort of depends. If the spoilers can be kept from being TOO big, then I really enjoy having more stories even if they are out of order. For instance we already knew that something big was going to happen halloween, so back referances to that won't hurt anything if they aren't too specific.

But having Jade discuss in detail how Fey eloped with Greasey to escape the stress of life at Whateley might be a bit too much of a spoiler.

I really do look forward to seeing any new stories that come out.

Thanks to all the authors for all your work!

My opinion is that i don't like to be confused when I'm reading a story. If details in another story are required to understand what is going on than I would prefer to wait. past that I don't care to much.
I just like to read

The addict in me says "POST THEM NOW!" So I'm telling the addict to cool it. If you go too far past a nexus point, then there is a danger that a critical nexus loses a lot of impact.

I'm in argument with what most people have said as long as there no massive piece of the plot that is referenced to under stand what going on or is simple reviewed and there for a spoilers for an earlier store then I'm fine.

I say post away. If there are spoiler worries, put something in bold at the top of the story warning people.

That way, those of us who want the stories now get them, and everyone else only have themselves to blame when they cave in and read them anyhow.

No ones seen any of the Tolkien Estate people around, have they? Shocked

Best wishes,
