Xalt, Ultra-X-Amine by definition has two vastly different effects:
1)To baselines - puts them in highly suggestive state, in a trance
2)to mutants - violently kickstarts their manifestations, causing catastrophic burnouta.
The reason Mystic Six survived the ordeal was because they were the youngest and thus had the least developed latent mutations. So since kickstart was from a very deep hole, so to speak, they did not go splat upon landing by the side of that hole.
Come to think, UXA basically completely deactivates all concious and unconcious restraints and controls a person has, be it baseline or mutant. However, mutants have a lot more under their skin than baselines, so they "erupt" with power in a very energetic way. It could also explain why Cirque, after trying her version, had her powers become unstable - her control was distrupted, it was not a matter of additional power gained.
Never mind, I'm just a guy.

Cirque probably realised she was going to burn out(as a result of her experiments) so willingly sacrificed herself to enable the others to escape.
