An avatar is an image that represents you when you post on the system. As you can see, mine is a black cat at the moment. I've added hundreds of avatars on the system. To select one, click on "Ppofile" then at the bottom of the page hit the "View Gallery" button. select one of the images then hit the "Select Avatar" button. Be sure to use the "SUBMIT" button to make the change to your profile.

Of course, you can create and upload your own avatar if you wish. Avatar images are to be no more than 80 by 80 pixels and no larger than about 6 Kbytes in size. They should be in the GIF or JPF image formats.

Thanks for the Avatar service! I was having all sorts of troubles getting anything that I liked trimmed down to the size that this system would taken. I've taken one of the Avatars that you've provided, and I'm quite happy with it. At least, for now. Again, thanks for the effort.

To Be, or Not to Be; this is a question?

Bek if you need an avatar, send me the pic you want "shrunk" down and explain what part of the image you want

I've seen various avatars which are not from the gallery. Bob Arnold in the opening post of this thread talked about uploading avatars, but I haven't been able to get anything in the profile section to allow me to do this.

So, how does one go about getting your own avatar added? I've got this cute kitten .jpg I'm starting to use at various places, but am currently quite befuddled about how to bring it to the forum software's attention.

Thanks!

Go to your Control Panel, Account Settings and in the "Avatar Type" drop-down select "Upload avatar." The page will reload with a line to upload your avatar, and the filesize restriction - to wit: max size 80x80 pixels, allowed formats png, jpg or gif. I remember someone using an animated avatar, so apparently animated gifs are compatible with the system. For my taste, 80x80 is a tad too large and sorta breaks the site layout, so my avatar is actually 64x64 -- but that's me.

Anyway, the real hurdle is that uploaded avatars have to be approved by the sysop -- and, well, since there are a few troubles with permissions and Warren stepping down, I don't know if anybody currently is doing the checking and approval. It might be a while until your avatar is approved.

Don't call me Shirley. You will surely make me surly.

I had to read this while looking at the proper screen for it to help, I wasn't seeing the Avatar Type select option, just completely scanning past it. Thanks!

The Head troll is still running the forum! It's not that difficult I just couldn't keep fighting to get the site updated.

I got hired back at the same company I was at but in a different department. Still money is tight. Hours are long and since I'm working on a computer I don't really feel like sitting at it more working on the site.

This does not sound like lots of fun, but at least you still have bread and a roof. Lots of luck with finding something more to your liking.

If nothing else, it's always easier to get a new job if you've already got one.
