(It did help, thanks.)

Thank you for taking a look.

Hope its not too odd.

Could an AVatar who never came across a drifting spirit learn instead how to take hold of their own soul and detach a portion of it?

Can spirits be damaged?

If they can, do Spirits heal on their own?

If not, can they be healed by another?

Can a persons soul be damaged?

If they can, does their soul heal on its own?

If not, can they be healed by another?

What would happen if an AVatar did detach a portion of their soul and before they reattached it their soul had completely healed?

Would the detached part be able to reattach?

What if while the detached part was off the AVatar had their soul completely healed by spirit healer?

Would the detached part be able to reattach?

What if they completely healed the detached part of the soul instead?

Would the detached part be able to rejoin with the AVatars soul?

If both were completely healed first?

If they could, would the AVatar have a Huge soul?

Would that cause them to be at risk of things that hunt souls?

Thanks again for taking a look.

What is it that each person "really" wants? And what is it that each person "really" needs?

Heyla

While I did do a lot of thinking on the Avatar ability and focus on one since, when I got the bug, there did not /seem/ to be one in play... here are a few of my views on the matter. Note that this may or may not be canon.

The first seems unlikely. That seems much like what Jade does, in fact, and it seemed highly unusual to the power testing boffins, enough so that I doubted it was a stock Avatar ability or even an uncommon one. In my view, the Avatar ability actually changes the nature of a mutant's spirit-form, entangling their spirit and body in a fashion that shields a naked-spirit entity from reality within that shell. It is why it is harder for a spirit to possess an Avatar, shoving that spirit out of the way to assume control, as the spirit is tied to the body.

As for the rest, we are already aware that they can be damaged by virtue of Jade's little encounter with Hekate's demon. Also, I would tend to classify any situation where a spirit possesses someone and changes them (physically and/or permanently) to be a case of spiritual damage. Even Ayla's phase-shift on Tisiphone would qualify, in my mind.

Are you entirely certain that soul and spirit are not the same, as far as the Whateley Universe is concerned?

At that point, I would likely envision it as needing the same sort of process as created the five known Forces, somehow managing to merge two discrete spirits into one. I do think you are trying to get too far into mechanics rather than leaving things loose enough to allow yourself wiggle room, if needed, however.

I would not term a soul as a given size, personally. I could see saying that a spirit-form is more complex than another but size in such a sense seems meaningless. I do tend to think of Exemplars as being a more complex spirit-form than other mutants who are, in turn, more complex than baselines. That comes to me from the fact that an Exemplar's spirit-form, their BIT, actually physically changes them whereas it does not do so for others.

Hope that helped.
