Hello everyone! My name, well my online pseudonym, is Wingnut2292.

I apologize in advance for the long post. I live in Troy, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit in southeast Oakland County. Sadly I'm currently unemployed – A&P Tea Co. decided that Farmer Jack, our regional grocer, was not a worth-while investment any more and decided to close the whole chain. It's aggravating, we worked hard to try to keep 'Jack afloat. I do have some money coming in form ADD drug-studies though, so I'm not broke. Michigan Works!, No Worker Left Behind and Michigan Rehabilitation Services are helping. Now to find someone who's giving interviews....(Applications I have plenty of!)

Anyway, I've enjoyed the Whateley Universe of stories a lot. I'm happy to discover the Crystal Hall site by chance. For a while I thought the Universe was over when Sapphire stopped updating regularly...err semi-regularly. I still have a lot of catching up to do. ( I like long fiction – esp. long fiction of great quality – it has has the downside of requiring reading a lot to catch up if you've been out of the loop for a while.) When I found that Fan-fiction of the Universe was allowed, I've decided to try my hand. I hope to be less limited by my dysgraphia by doing this and use this as a creative outlet.

The Crystal Hall is a great resource. So is the Stardust site. There's a lot of C&C here, which is great for aspiring amateur writers. (We all can't be Bek D. Corbin or Dr. Bender. Having pier help is a very great boon.) Authors exist for many reasons, but one (and mine) is to entertain. So when in doubt, ask the readers.

My dilemma is that I am both blessed and cursed with ADD. This gives me immense imagination and energy to make ideas. My problem is that all my ideas look good, and I have only time and energy to write about one. I've hemmed and hawed over what I want to write about for about 4 months now. As long as my list is right now, this is the reduced list. So everyone, here are my ideas for a Whateley character. Tell me what you like, and what you don't like. Thank you very much for your input in advance. ^_^

I know my theme, a variation of Spider-man's: Power & Wisdom, Ability & Permission. Where Peter debated weather or not be the Spider-man, my character will be concerned about use of "her" powers. There is a conflict I want to explore: "Ability is not Permission, but Free-Will is a divine right".

I formated these entries as: Idea, Transformation, Whateley Classification, Powers, Flaw(s), Notes. I sorry if I'm off on the Whateley Classifications, they're best guesses at this point. I tried to keep most characters to a total of 5; I could easily be high or low. You maybe able to tell as you read on, I like to role-play, and I used RPGs make models of characters. It's one way to my work around my dysgraphia. Smile

The stared entries (*) are my current favorites.

1) Animal Totems

a) *Hare Avatar, Spirit Contract. Esper 3, Speedster 2; Package-deal Psi {Telepathy, Empathy and Telekinesis} {In this case swap TK for Energizer: Kinetic}, Illusion.

Flaws: Magnet for other tricksters. Flaw: Lucky (good & bad)

Notes: It's amazing what a small change can do. I was having problems making a psion that didn't suffer from forgettable or transparent. Noticing that that speedsters are not covered much in Whateley, swapping TK for for Enegizer: Kinetic feels similar, but is capable of doing different stunts. Like boost your speed and run up walls! Or throw your opponent of the Earth! (The Earth rotates. Everything rotates with the 3rd Rock. Negate some of the effect of Earth's rotation on someone and either they go flying away, fast, or they get embedded in the Earth, fast. Cool.)

Planed Name: "Acelera"?, "Lepis"?, "Spring-heeled <name>"?

----------

b) *Bee/Wasp Avatar, Infection. Esper 3, Exemplar 1, Shifter 1; Pkg-deal Psi, ESP, Prob. Manip, Bee Form, Armor {Exoskeleton}.

Flaws: Disease - lycanthorpy (apithropy); Pacified by Smoke

Notes: Werebees. Yes Werebees. I'm fond of the workably odd, power wise, and I am fond of the counter-type, theme wise. I realize that bees are normally an invalid target for the lycantorpic disease. Bees are not predatory. Not carnivorous or a scavenger. Not a typical horror animal. (Unless you're allergic.) So why werebees? Well... any given hive is a super-majority or more female. Bees are intelligent, industrious, respond well to order and hierarchy. They are gentle, easy to control with smoke and fire and can come in hives of hundreds to a couple thousand.
Someone's messing with magic and nature. Who would want so many girls? Who would finance such an operation? Some group who's leaders are bold, ambitious and desperate. Some group with a big army who wants to minimize the problems of having a big army, but keep all of the benefits. Some group who needs girls - about forty-million girls - to marry forty-million boys and men. And I've said enough. Bees have good vision, can see in more colors that humans, and can do "impossible" things like fly when they shouldn't, which influenced my selection of Powers.

Possible name: "Apis"?, "Yellow-jacket"?, "Halcyon"? (Ironic, Halcyon can mean both golden which I'm using it for, and Kingfisher which eats bees.)

--------------------

2) Latent Psionics

a) "Full-Package" Package-Deal Psi, Latent/Post-human. Esper 4, Warper 1; Telepathy, Empathy, Mind Control/Command, ESP/Precog, Prehensile Hair/Telekinetic Aura,

Flaws: Three eyes, four arms; Ostracized: Post-human Society- Mind Control

Notes: Inspired by my curiosity and joy that get when I make make odd powers work well. Prehensile hair as a power is rare in girls, unheard of in guys. When thinking of what kind of stunts someone with Preh. Hair could, I ended up with the same things the Spider-man could do. Since my theme is inspired by Spidey, It kind a fits.
To differentiate this character from the friendly neighborhood superhero, I focused on the psionic nature of this character, adding powers that would focus on Power and Responsibility. Existing powers I plan to use differently. Mind Control is a sticky thing, even in a simple verbal command form. Not the power to have if you want to have lots of friends. (Even post-humans distrust mind controllers.) There may be too few powers to be a "full-package", but I'd rather err on the side of weakness. It's not like this character is a pushover.

Planed name: the "Pied Piper".

----------

b) *Universal Key; Latent/Contract {Self/Collective Unconscious}. Esper 3, Waper 2.
Pkg-deal Psi, Akashic, Open/Negate Portals (Supernatural and man-made) [Stunts: Tele-portal, Summon, Toggle any bi-state device - like locks.]

Flaws: Sacrifice manhood/identity for powers. Provisional identity ordered by State Court.

Notes: Inspired by a combination Inoue Orihime from "Bleach" and Children from "Mai-HiME". I liked the great summoned creatures fighting each other from "Mai-HiME", and I like Orihime's event-rejection abilities. Very broad and flexible. Simple, but very powerful. So while I was looking for a way to make a summoner idea, I stumbled across this idea in a day dream. This character is the the keeper to all portals. From the supernatural portals (like the Sigil of the Gateway or a self-made teleportal) or man-made (any given point of entry, exit or access) this character can open or close 'em.

Planed name: "Skeleton Key"?

--------------------

3) Supernatural Beings

a) *Norn/Disir/Swan Maiden Avatar, Inherited. Avatar 2, Warper 2, Esper 2. Magic {Fate/Prob Alteration}, Swan Form, Telepathy, Empathy, Tool - Shield.

Flaws: Power Focus {Tool - Either a Spool, two Needles or a pair of Scissors}; Enemy: {Cruel Norns}

Notes: Disir are like family based Norse spirit guardians. They also fulfill a bunch of misc. tasks in Asgard - beer maids, shield maids, fate weavers and choosers of the slain. Contrary to popular belief, there were more than three Norns. The Poetic and Prose Veda suggest as many as 100, 50 fair and 50 cruel. According to myth, one can inherit a Disir form your father or grand father. It would be interesting if said heir be an avatar. The shield is a nod to Capt. America.

Planed name: Fate Weaver? Star Weaver? the Swan Maid?

----------

b) *Merfolk/Sea-Dragon Avatar, Fairy Contract/Law. Avatar 2, Warper 2, Esper 2. Pkg-deal Psi, Amhpib, Magic {Weather Control}, Sonic Manip.

Flaws: Has a tail instead of legs, is capable of slithering. Looks ½ Human, ¼ Serpentine and ¼ Piscean. Counts as a dragon in regards to the supernatural. Flaw: MCO Scrutiny {[Biased] Belief that the character sunk a ship}

Notes: ... What? The underwater hero is a reoccurring minor theme, this an attempt to make a useful version of one. (Sorry, Aquaman. You're a hero, but you're very...specialized. Yes, that's the word.) Merfolk are amphibious for reasons more than teasing sailors. They needed or gained advantage from being on land. In my imagination, I've thought that the merfolk were better modeled after a combination of humans and the sea-serpents and sea dragons of legend, rather than of dolphins, whales and great fish that are so common.
My concept of merfolk is marsupial; eggs are inseminated like fish or lizards but young incubated in a womb after they hatch. The pouch is at the human/not-human dividing line. That's the roughly the location the womb is in a baseline girl. I'm conflicted on weather or not this character should regain her legs. Doing so would add to on-land usefulness, but reduce her connection to the watter.

Planed name: "Gitche-gumii" (^_^ Michigan reference!)

Well, I tend to like the magical types, so I'm biased that direction. I'd go with the Disir Character, myself. Just a quick comment, I like the mythic basis of the character and the potential abilities, along with the flaws.

I AM the goddess of Chaos! Worship me! Just don't expect the results you wanted. Wink

Maggie, Dr. Bender, everybody who's voted in poll:

Thank you! ^_^.

I appreciate that you took the time to reply. I'll be honest, the results were different than I expected. But it's nothing that I can't handle. I'm already charting the plot for both issue #1 and the meta-plot that spans between chapters. I have a picture - albeit a hero-machine picture. ( http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/heromachine2/heroMachine2 .asp Then again, I can't draw a straight line with a ruler.

So if I may, here is my character - Blár Svan!

(Blár is not holding a wand. She's holding a very large sewing needle.)

Thank you all again!

I'm honored. If you need/want to borrow any of my ideas, go ahead! It's nice to be appreciated! Collaborations and joint stories are quite fine with me. The more, the merrier, right?

Are my email and Y!/AIM handles available on my profile?
