Perhaps once they've done a few more Dark Phoenix runs, Bardue will realise they do indeed have multiple plans for each scenario.

Or he'll be extra evil and introduce additional complicating factors, e.g. as with this one, having the showdown in the middle of a city rather than on campus - the intent obviously to take down the Dark Phoenix while simultaneously causing as little collateral damage as possible.

Ayla's discussion of training teams makes me wonder which categories Alex and CeeCee will fall into... and who their unfortunate team-mates will be...

Meanwhile, Alex preparing a prank for Ayla. Oh dear - that's bound to not go down well - let's just hope it's non-harmful and will be appreciated / enjoyed by the rest of TK. Still, I suppose Alex views it as revenge for the various rules Ayla's placed on usage of equipment within the room, and subjecting her to Brass Monkey each morning. As for her contact, I hope she's just doing an Abby Carfax rather than cheating on X-O.

Finally, someone asked earlier about a proper intro to Koehnes - try Fistful of Chaka. That's about as comprehensive a guide as you're going to get for the earth spirit (who's somewhat comparable to a Leprechaun or Brownie).

The "singularity" alone would be troublesome enough.
Well yeah, but that's just the core. Most of the area is "just" an exceptionally strong gravitic field.
I agree that staying away from areas where the rules of physics break down under the pressure of nigh-infinite forces is usually a good idea.

Maybe she already had, which would be why more Ultraviolents than Bloodwolf are scared of her?
That is what I'm saying in the part you've quoted, yes.

Um how stupid is Vamp?
Not very, she's actually quite smart.
She is, however, not quite as smart as she likes to think she is. And this shall be her downfall.

I'm a little surprised that Ayla and the others actually revealed... I guess that would be Plan E, the one where Fey banishes the Dark Stalker? That's one of the ace-in-the-hole plans I figured the Kimbas would want to keep a secret from people who have access to the sim logs, first because it reveals that the Kimbas have access to such a spell, and second because it reveals such a weakness is available to be exploited with Tennyo.
Meh. "If one creates an entirely new and separate dimension and then banishes Tennyo inside it, it might take her out" is not exactly what I'd call "secret information". It'd take out anything in the universe.
It won't be of any help to most others since it's an Elder God spell that heavily relies on the inhuman amount of raw power Fey can draw upon. A brute force approach, not some fancy Achille's Heel to be exploited.

That's like saying "you shouldn't say that dropping a nuke in a confined space knocked out Tennyo for several minutes, or people will know they can incapacitate her with a constant bombardment of nuclear devices". The problem isn't to know that bombarding her with a string of megaton-scale explosions would be effective, it's to actually manage to bring that sort of firepower to bear.

People like the Necromancer already know that Fey has access to that sort of spell, so it's not really telling much about Fey either.
The thing about ecosystem? More of a problem. At least they only know it is relevant for ultimate doom spells.

Do you mean "Chapters 13 and 14 of Ayla 9" or "Ayla 13 and Ayla 14" ?

Hmmm had an odd thought on the matter, what if the people behind this might be Venus Inc. (Who MIGHT have one or two males to beautiful to be males) and the Prank is a Makeover?

Btw, I'm calling bullshit on the antimatter explosion. Damn straight the computer was a cheating bastard; a 4.4 gigaton blast amounts to over 100kg of antimatter while Tennyo masses only 54kg, and the antimatter elements in her blood can't amount to more than a very small percentage of her total mass. I suppose you could handwave it by saying she has more mass squirreled away in different planes, but there's no way the computer could know that.

Don't forget that during the explosion most of Phase's mass would also be converted to energy as well as possible disruptions in "nearby" dimensional mass and the "bit" dimensions. A few gigatons may have been an underestimate by the computers due to lack of sufficient knowledge and computational abilities of those computers.

Well, I checked a couple antimatter-to-megatons calculators over the web and they seem to match Deamon's numbers. The thing is, as far as I could tell, those calculators *already* double the mass to be converted in energy (1 kg of antimatter + 1 kg of normal matter = 2 kg to be converted via e=mc2).

My guess? Whoever was the geek who programmed the explosion goofed. First, he assumed for the purpose of calculation that Tennyo is composed of 100% antimatter -- which obviously is not the case. Then, he wrongly assumed that whatever calculator he used did NOT include the equivalent amount of annihilated normal matter and doubled the size of the explosion to "correct" the number...

Yes, I tried to cover my a$$ by including that little bit about "nearby dimensions" etc. just for fun. Given that Phase is an extra-dimensional warper that could be an effect. Honest it could.

>I asked, "How did you sync all the J-Team when you were changing the lyrics? Or did you come up with the re-write before you instantiated everyone?"

Jinn looked at Jade. "No one else says 'instantiated'. Phase is sooooo weird."

Jade looked around to make sure no one was hanging around eavesdropping, like, say, X-O. She said, "It's not a big deal. You know I can keep contact with everyone who's got a part stuck in me. So I just cheated! Everyone was Jinn-sized and just holding Kitty or Shielder, and sticking a finger in my head. So we were making up the lyrics as a team. It worked great!" She looked around again and said, "We just can't do it if there's some creepy Avatar lurking around trying to suck us out of our costume or something." >

I seriously, seriously look forward to someone realizing how ungodly powerfull this ability is. Paraell processing consciousness - with that ability she may wind up doing some gadgetterring of her own in truth. At the minimum.

At the maximum...you're looking at the ability to assume the form of a hive-mind with half a dozen pairs of telekinetic 'hands'.

A tank crew, basically with perfect, flawless co-ordination because they are both all the same mind and all in telepathic contact.

Except, I wouldn't put her in a tank. Some sort of heavily armed high speed attack aircraft. Or power armor. ...actually, that would make a good method to 'fake' power armor. A 3-4 charge of 'Jinn' to provide motive power, good armor, and weapons systems they collectively control - and their connection with Jade would be inside the helmet. And it's a 'devise' because the motive systems 'should not work' - because they don't, as it's all Jinn.

Awesome update. This is one of the best sim-based sections yet.

One thing caught my eye:

Quote:
late May, when it was time for the annual training team 'swap meets' to begin. That was a period at the end of the school year when teams could look for new blood to patch up weaknesses in their lineups.

Forshadowing the Kimbas adding someone new?

[1] Thanks. I'm hoping at least one of the other sims in this story will look as good. I keep thinking I should have made Dark Generator's sim even sillier and more troperiffic.

[2] It may be foreshadowing, but it doesn't necessarily reflect foreshadowing for Team Kimba's lineup.

Ayla 11 [summer vacation]
Ayla 12 [start of fall term]
Ayla 13 [middle of fall term]
Ayla 14 [Xmas holiday break]
plus some Ayla short stories scattered here and there.

Next on Ayla and the Mad Scientist:

Bardue waited until we sat down. Then he said, "Guess what, Team Kimba? Your density warper's death triggered <INSERT DARK AYLA'S LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT HERE>. It devastated Multi-national Businesses and caused a worldwide thirty-year Economic Depression. Good work. You just beat your opponent & DESTROYED THE ENTIRE FUCKING ECONOMY!"

Well I have to say that that was one of the best updates we have had for quite a while.

Interesting that Tennyo took it so well. Seems we are missing some development on that front.
Can't see an argument for her holding back. Tennyo is only powerful on a 'physical god' scale, not an eldritch abomination scale. She only gets that bad when the Star Stalker begins taking over.

A little disappointed that Phase's introspection was still so one sided after all this time. Especially after meeting things that make even heavy weight mutants (Fey, Tennyo and Sara do NOT count) look like wannabe gangsters from quiet suburbia.

Wish Phase would start taking magic seriously. RH does not need a maser, it needs a genuine power-gem. That or a cartage-castor system.

Alex... actually I rather like that bit. She is enough of an arrogant jerk to try something and as everyone on TK hates her they won't have warned her about Phase's retaliation habits.
This assuming she is going for harmless humiliation rather than genuine sabotage. In which case I hope she enjoys whatever Jobe does to her in retribution.

You think that's impressive?

Diane probably has Ayla's/Trevor's life mapped out up until his death. Those stories are the only ones currently being actively written.

If Diane cut her finger, she wouldn't bleed blood. She would bleed 'awesome'.

Gotta say, the whole sim match vs DarkTennyo was just amazing. Since the site re-unlocked each week's story has been been better than the one before (and the run started way up there to begin with).

In this particular case, we see what happens when an obsessive paranoid with enhanced reasoning has to plan how to take down a team-mate. Just like Stopwatch's 'plans H through Q', but with a team that actually grokks what he is planning.
(In that particular case it may be something to do with Stopwatch's bad planning skills versus Phase's managerial level planning skills developed before kindergarten school, but I digress...)

A team with 5 powerhouses and 7 wildcards. Does that mean (a) he counts Shroud as a separate team-mate, and (b) he recognises how much of a powerhouse he is?

Have Fun!
