I think that second proposal of mine must be rather close to the actual layout. It does correspond very well to the descriptions in the more consistent body of stories. Some exceptions might be that it makes the way Fey's first period thunderstorms blocked the stairway unlikely, and things like that, but it's rather consistent with (and mostly based upon) Jade's stories, which give the most detailed layout descriptions we have.

Thanks for saving them, rubberjohn. I don't like losing works I've put some research time into, like this layout.

If it's all right with you, could someone add the six names we're sure of and then put it on the Wiki? Maybe the one without names in the Cottages description, and one with names in the Poe Cottage description?

Could as well use the numbered one for both and just use a regular text list of known room assignments.

Glad I could help Oljak. It was fortunate that I found this thread interesting enough to actually save the whole thing, that's not something I do routinely.

Ayla uses it to fund Brass Monkey's comeback tour.

Hmmm... come to think of it, Ayla is now in position to help Brass Monkey. Two ways about it: the "Steve Wozniak" way (funding them out of his own pocket, because he thinks it's a good thing) and the "meddling executive" way: pushing for including songs by them in a Marvel movie.

Which Ayla then uses to subtly manipulate the international gold markets.

Ayla manipulating the international gold markets?
No, he would never do that. He is a Goodkind and as such a decent law following, God fearing example to humankind.

Of course, he would never do that in a way that it was possible to trace it back to him. So what are you talking about? Very Happy

My problem with these designs (especially the second image, which seems to be the best match to what is described in the stories) is the sunroom is up the girls' end of the hallway.

The design that makes the most sense would be the girls on one side of two central blocks (bathrooms/toilets) and the boys on the other. Sadly, given the room allocations that we know, this doesn't fit (unless for some reason the rooms are not contigious, and 216 is the northwest, while 201/204 is the northeast).

Note: I think I can remember mentions of "across the hall" referring to TK rooms... so odds are this won't work. And there was a mention in one story about having to pass boys' rooms to get to one of the girl's ones... so, I dunno.

I've attached a quick mockup done in blender (just the floor plan)

Let's see if I end up putting my foot in my mouth again.

I'm not sure what those four blocks are supposed to be. Otherwise it matches how I've always visualized it.
